She was owned by the War Shipping Administration & operated by the Isthmian SS Co. She carried 2,900 tons of ammunition, gas, guns, jeeps, troops & equipment. On 6th July she sailed from Oran N Africa en route to Gela, Sicily where she arrived on the 11th. While discharging her cargo about 30 A/C approached and began bombing the anchorage, at 1545 3 bombs hit the ship almost simultaneous. The first penetrated #1 hatch but was a dud the second penetrated #2 hatch 7 the thirs #3 hatch both exploded causing fires after 35 minutes the fire control parties were loosing the battle to put out the fires therefore the 8 officers, 33 crew, 32 armed guards & 348 troops abandoned ship by 1700 the ship had sunk in shallow water on a even keel by then her boat deck & bridge was burnt out & the bow had been blown her forward end apart, there were no losses
