Hello Brian,

Your date appears to be wrong as there is no such attack in UPRIGHT's patrol report. You may be referring to the counter-attack following the sinking of CARLO DEL GRECO and FABIO FILZI which occurred a few hours later (0212+/13). This was carried out by the escorting destroyers DA RECCO and USODIMARE. Or perhaps to the depth-charging of 0400/14 which was carried out by a lone destroyer? This was probably the torpedo-boat LINCE or perhaps SAGITTARIO. Both these vessels had recently been been equipped with the German S-Gerät and were exercising daily off Taranto. The Italian Official History reports that LINCE attacked a good contact but the date given is 16.12.41 (UPRIGHT was not attacked on that date). Either this is wrong or the 14.12.41 depth-charging was just part of the exercises and UPRIGHT may have thought she was the target.
