Without more details - with the info. you have offered, then it is impossible .... over the last 150 years or so, dozens of ships spent time at Malta. If you are interested in finding out more, than as you are a relative, it may be possible to obtain his service record,which will tell the ships he served on - but you must have more details, in particular, when he was in naval service. If you can find this out, then depending on when it was then the addresses below may help:
