Royal navy blockade against vichy france ships

apprently the royal navy was under strict orders to board every vichy france ship at sea. There was naval blockade in place (this also included all french colonies under vichy administration like madagascar, western africa, reunion island, ...)
however, under US governement pressure (which entertained diplomatic relations with vichy until 1942), the British government apprently changed the policy.

in some places (islands like madagascar, reunion for example), the blockade lead to severe shortages.

Has sanyone more information, on this subject. Everyone has heard of Mers-el-kebir (french ships destroyed by royal navy), Dakar and other places but i couldnt find much info about the blockade.
