MMS.40 is shown as being launched by Richards at Lowestoft on 15 March 1941 and completed 10 June 1941, so if the raid was on 5 May she must have been fitting out.
The published history of Richards does mention that the yard was frequently the target of air raids, but claims that no serious damage was caused. It does state that the worst damage was when a stick of six high explosive bombs "came down abreast the fitting out wharf which was put out of action for six months"... and also mentions that one ship "was damaged by incendiaries not long after being christened..." The ship is not identified, but could perhaps be MMS.40.
Either way, she entered service in June and served until sold off in 1946 to become mercantile Rita
