Hello all

There has been a few developements on the Historic Warships front the ships have recently been disclamed by the liquidator and where recently handed over to the crown.

We have now heard that the crown wish to disclame the vessels and may let a fir come in to dispose of them.

We cannot let this happen "WE NEED YOUR HELP " below there is a copy of a letter drafted up by the satff and volunteers group of The Warship Preservation Trust.

We would like as many members as possible to e-mail the letter to the list of e-mail addressed below and ask your friends to do the same it worked the first time s lets get the pressure on and get something done.

Brian

Dear

I write to you on behalf of the ex-staff and volunteers of the Warship Preservation
Trust Ltd (WPT) who have formed themselves into an informal Group to keeping
a watching brief on the destiny of the vessels following the WPT going into
Voluntary Liquidation in February this year.

The Group are in continuious contact with David Ball, Head of Regeneration
at Wirral Borough Council (WBC) who has been and still is are very active
in trying
to secure the vessels as an attraction on Wirral.

At a meeting with him today we learnt that the Crown (acting through the
Department
of Culture Media & Sport (DofCM&S)), who are in current ownership of the
vessels following them being disclaimed by the Liquidator are themselves
apparently taking
urgent steps to disclaim ownership themselves. We consider such action would
be highly inappropriate at a time when WBC are actively in talks with a potential
party who we are advised may be prepared to take ownership of the vessels,
give them a home and open them again as an attraction on Wirral.

Whilst we appreciate disclaiming ownership by the Crown may be appropriate
in certain circumstances, to do so whilst there is still any realistic prospect
of them being saved for the nation would seem wholly inappropriate in the
extreme. Such action at this stage could cause a potential future hinderence
to those of us, including our local representatives, who consider the vessels
to be part of our national heritage and are worth saving.

It is for this reason therefore we write to you requesting you use your position
as a MP to lobby whoever you feel appropriate with a view to stopping the
Crown disclaiming the vessels at this time and that ownership remains with
the Crown at least
until all avenues have been exhausted in trying to find a new owner
for the vessels in order that can remain part of the nations heritage.

We request your urgent action in this matter as we believe a decision by
the DofCM&S is imminient.

Yours sincerely
