After going all over the internet, I can only find one photograph of the Navajo class tugboat Pawnee. After the light cruiser Houston had been badly damaged, the Pawnee was towing it to safety, despite repeated Japanese air attacks.
"These attacks were beaten off, but one plane got through and nearly blew off Houston's stern with a torpedo. Immediately after this hit, the signal lamps of Pawnee blinked a message to the stricken cruiser: 'We'll stand by you!'"
Despite taking on 6500 tons of water, the Houston was stil towed to safety.
