WELSHMAN saw most of her limited service in the Med, before being torpedoed and sunk, with heavy loss of life, in February 1943.
As for the incident which resulted in your father's injury, it may perhaps have been on 10 May 1942 - on that day she reached Malta after a high speed passage from Gibraltar, laden with 340 tons of stores and 120 personnel; whilst unloading, the harbour came under very heavy air attack and she was 'near missed' by a bomb, and was 'peppered' with shrapnel.
