Abdiel Class Minelayers

"This was the main British minelayer (or warship minelayers as opposed to auxiliary minelayers).

This class was built in two groups. The ships and their armament differered considerably.

They were very fast at 40 knots and could do the Gibraltar to Malta run overnight and were used to suppy fuel & food to the island."

Not quite! The distance is almost 1000 miles which even at 40 knots takes 25 hours.
Given the shortage of fuel in Malta, they would be unlikely to afford full speed all the way and certainly had to slow down to stream paravanes to get through the minefields around Malta.
