Hi All,
I am researching the history of the deep-water Loch Eriboll on Scotland's north coast and its contribution to the British Navy's activities in two world wars.
A memorial high on the loch-side commemorates the mighty HMS HOOD, about which much is published and the history of which is known. Also included in the memorial is a similar reference to British submarine H-43, about which I have been able to discover little - built 1919, scrapped 1944/5.
What relevance did Loch Eriboll have to H-43? When was the sub anchored in the loch? And for what purpose?
Also, any contribution or pointers towards written sources referring to First World War operations involving Loch Eriboll would be most sincerely received.
With regards and best wishes.
