Basic details on this website at [www.uboat.net]. HMT Lord Wakefield was requisitioned from Pickering & Haldane of Hull by the Admiralty in August 1939 and converted into an anti-submarine trawler (Senior Officer Lt Cdr M B Sherwood RN (Rtd)). She joined the 17th A/S Group and was based at Swansea before being transferred to Portsmouth as Group Leader in 1940. According to Weekly Resumé No. 204 of the Naval, Military and Air Situation in the National Archives [www.nationalarchives.gov.uk], she was damaged in a collision off St Ann's Head on 23 July 1943. She took part in the D-day landings in June 1944 and was sunk by aircraft off Normandy on 29 July with the loss of 34 lives. Casualty list at [www.naval-history.net].
