A number of years back I remember watching a dive boat from Wilmington, Delaware literally stripping the U-85 of it's interior. They took out all the china, silverware, brass, anything of any resemblance or historical/intrinsic value. As a young child, I may have gone "wow," but studying history seriously today, it saddens and angers me to recall how this war grave became someone's private treasure trove. Not all the dive boats and companies in NC operate this way. As noted, this boat (I'm going to give the name of it) came all the way down from Delaware to gut the wreck. What ever happens to all of the items removed aside from vanishing into a private collection who knows. It's a loss for all.
