Scapa ceased being a Main Fleet Base on 26.07.1920 when it became a fleet exercise anchorage.
A Main fleet base again from 01.03.1940; closed down again as a fleet base 31.03.1946 again becoming an exercise anchorage and finally closed in 08.1956.

It was always too remote with few facilities - all support had to come from depot and repair ships stationed there
