<HTML>Good tv programme, tonight, January 21st 2004,on BBC Channel 2 on Max Valentiner and the sinking on December 30th 1915 of the SS Persia' carrying a Mhaharajah's jewels and gold bulion and passengers.
Good shots of German Navy's Annalpolis/Dartmouth at Flensburg where ther eis still a map on the wall showing all U-Boat kills in WW1.
Also saw a graduation picture of Max Valentiner dated 1904.
Camera cut to site of sinking south of Crete and a Robert Ballard type operation located the SS Persia and broke into the strong room digging out precious stones and old newspapers in good nick, one of which, ironically reported Maax Valentiner's sinking Of SS Ancona,
Valentinr was tried as a war criminal by a German court post -WW1
but acquitted.
The programme while admitting that the ship sank in just 5 minutes and only 3 of 19 onboard children survived. Valentiner's log book showed that he thought that SS Persia was a troopship.
It was also armed.
One woman who died by drowning coutresy of Max Valentiner was Alice Thornton-the model for the winged lady who still adorns the front of every Rolls Royce car-she was Lord Montagu's mistress to-he survived the attack she didn't but Rolls Royce still keep her immortal.</HTML>
