<HTML>I saw the programe as well and there a couple of points that it did not pick up on. At the time of Ancona's sinking Germany was not at war with Italy, but such a technicality was not to get in the way of Max. He illeagally flew the Austrain flag whilst sinking the ship. In doing this he committed thrre breaches of intenational law. According to Mediterranean Submarines, he justified this sinking by claiming that it was a troopship, just as he was to do with the Persia.
Also I must admit that I cringed at the crude butchery they employed to open up the ship and the strong-room. I am assuming that the ship is not a declared war grave or they woukld not be able to do what they did, but with the speed of the sinking and the death toll, there must be bodies trapped inside the wreck.
