Unidentified torpedoed ship

I have a letter written by a Nursing Sister dated July 5, 1917, where she tells of being torpedoed as her ship neared England from Canada. She says that she made it into a life boat and was picked up by a British destroyer and taken to Ireland. She says that she remained there for several days and while there, she mentions that the ship was towed into port (so it wasn't sunk), and they were able to retreive most of their belongings.
Now for the hard part, she didn't name the ship and I'm wondering if any of our naval experts might be able to figure out the ship's name. I'm not sure of how long she waited to write the letter after this happened.
Thank you for any assistance.
