<HTML>Simone,
Brodness was sunk by UC 38.
It's certainly true that there's some confusion between Austrian and German sinking claims. Each country analysised its sinking claims against British/French/Italian etc. losses without considering what its ally claimed. As a result, there are both German and Austrian claims for the same ship.
In addition, German U-boats also had nominal numbers in the Austrian navy as well.
That said, there's no doubt the German UC 38 was responsible. In the list of Austrian sinking claims I have, there is no claim for this date. In addition, the Austrian U 3 (August 13, 1915) and U 6 (May 13, 1916) had both been lost before March 31, 1917.
Best wishes,
Michael</HTML>
