The germans never thought that it was a cruiser because Tiesenhausen reported that he had attacked on battleship in a convoy of three. As he had problems with his crash dive after the torpedo shot, he could not see what happened later. The battleship was supposed dammaged. On december 8, the Barham was still considered by the germans being in Alexandria. That's only on january 29, 1942, they learned by britisch informations that it was the Barham and that she was sunk.</HTML>
