<HTML>Since none of the facts (boats and commanders) seem to match the info here it seems to be fiction, but I just read a very interesting e-book, public domain and available at Project Gutenberg:

It purports to be a captured diary of a German U-Boat commander from WWI. Well worth the read. I apologize if I am repeating well known information. I did a search to see if this had been posted and didn't see anything.</HTML>
