uboats across Mexico?

<HTML>Hi - I'm new at this so don't laugh. I've heard stories about German uboats being transported across Mexico to be launched in the Caribbean and deployed on the US east coast during WW1. Can anyone comment on this? Did any uboats/crewmembers come ashore on US soil? Where? Any on the coast of Maine? I have also heard of a "secret German camp" in Maine. These stroies, true or false, are probably old hat to some but I would appreciate your comments or being directed to another source, a book or link. Thanx.</HTML>
