As far as it seems to me, the log book is a book handed on the bridge on which are mentionned all the information concerning navigation but the KTB or operationnal diary is the "war journal" and is relating the military aspect of the mission even if partly fulfilled from the information held in the log book. A cargo ship never had a KTB but always had a log book. One can improperly have used the words log book for a KTB.
Take this information for what it worth but I think it is something like that.
