Joachim,

Correct, your grandfather was a survivor of UB 81. Dwight Messimer's recent book "Verschollen" contains (in English ) the lengthy statement your grandfather made about the loss of UB 81. (He escaped through a torpedo tube). It also contains statements by three other survivors.
