The bend of the hull plates is not positive proof about the position of the explosion. I was given a tape of raw footage of a wreck survey by a friend. The hull plates were bent out, but when he asked someone who knew about these things, he was told this was quite normal for a torpedoed ship. When the wreck was eventually identified, it had been torpedoed.
