Actually as I recall, Siess did claim the tonnage for Britannic... U 73 was back in port for two weeks when the hospital ship hit a mine Siess had laid in the Zea Channel. It made the papers...
Of course, that's not what you're after. U-boats did have to account for their torpedo usage.
