I believe that my grandfather was an officer on the Warner. His name was William Henry Dean Gardner and he was taken by the attacking submarine to Cuxhaven and then transferred to the Holzminden POW camp in Germany where he spent the remainder of the war.
I say that I believe he was on the Warner becuse, even though he never told us the name of the ship, his records show that he was a sub lieut in the special service and he was captured on or about the date that the Warner was sunk.
All he ever told us was that he was on a Q Ship that was sunk in the "western approaches". He died some years ago and my own research suggests that the Warner was his ship.
There is a little more to the story if anyone is interested.
