Hi Gustavo,
S.M. U 155 (Meusel) was indeed resposible for the gun attack on the Portugese port Ponta Delgada.
The submarine continued it's shell fire as long as the returned fire of the shore batteries became dangerous.
S.M. U 155 sunk 44 vessels under 3 commanders, Meusel, Eckelmann and Studt.
43 vessels were sunk by bombs, gunfire ot torpedo shot. One vessel became victim of a mine laid by S.M. U 155.
The S.M. U 155 was the former Merchant Submarine DEUTSCHLAND. After two successful mercantile voyages to the USA the boat was converted to a Submarine Cruiser, heavily armed with two 15 cm-guns and 6 torpedo tubes. In 1918 it carried also 6-14 TEKA-mines.
I'm very interested in your old pics. It would be great if I could get good scans or copies.
Best wishes,
Simon
