S.M. U 38 (Valentiner, Max) - sinking claim

Hello guys,

in July 1917 Max Valentiner claimed the sinking of a French sailing vessel of abt. 500 grt, the "La Resolute" of Algiers ("La Resolue" or "La Resolud"). The handwritten correction of the name in the War Diary is hardly readable.

Valentiner placed two scuttling charges on the vessel but it remained afloat on it's cargo of empty barrels. So it was finally shelled. S.M. U 38 went off, leaving the stricken vessel to it's fate without any doubt that it couldn't made port.

The problem is, that the vessel isn't listed as sunk or damaged, neither in Lloyds War Losses nor in Spindler.

Does anybody read about that incident in the records of SHM or PRO?

Thank's in advance

Simon
