Thanks Michael,

James Binnie, my Grandfather, first joined this vessel on 16.1.1916 and remained on board until 24.2.1918 when she was sunk by the German submarine UC 49 3 miles SE of Coquet Island, Northumberland, while on passage from Leith to Rotterdam with coal and general cargo. I have the crew agreement for Amsterdam at the time she was torpedoed and the following men are listed as drowned.

Four men were drowned these were as follows:-
Radio Operator Norman Scott Craig - age 24 from Lenzie, Scotland - Cabin boy Peter Daly age 18 from Leith - Second Engineer David Arthur MacGregor age 26 from Leith - Mate Alexander McMillan age 34 from Anderson Glasgow.

I did not know she was operating in convoy. I wonder if anyone has any details of the convoy i.e what other ships were sunk - what was the name of the escorting ships etc

Best wishes

Jim Binnie
