Hi all,

Ron Young told me that the Amsterdam was carrying passengers when she was sunk by UC 49. Can anyone help by letting me know where i might get more info on that.
From the log of UC 49 the commander shows fear of being attacked by an airship -did any airship ever sink a German submarine or even assist in the sinking. What is known about them. He also suspects one vessel sighted as being a "Q" ship and describes her as a three masted barque. I suspect it was probably the motor schooner EILIAN which Carson Ritchie reports in his book as the only sailing ship in operation as a "Q" ship in February 1918. Has anyone any views on that.

Best wishes

Jim Binnie
