Thanks for your reply. It seems very likely she was sunk by either UB64 or U96. You are correct in stating that Splindler is unsure about the sinking but Irish newspapers reports state she was sunk by the “same submarine”, a submarine clearly identified as U96. It is not listed in the KTB of U96 and the fact that she was a Greek ship may have had something to do with her not being listed there if indeed she was sunk by U96. The location you suggest appears very accurate. I believe she was also shelled. The Greek captain spoke to the commander of the submarine and states that he saw the same submarine later. There appears to be no detailed record in the British National Archives and I would like to check possible Greek sources. Off the top of my head I’m not sure of UB64 returned from that cruise which makes the task more difficult and the KTB of UB64 may well have gone down with this U boat.
