B & B, get hold of Lowell Thomas's Raiders of the Deep. Allowing for sea stories being what they are, there's a decent amount of solid information about U-boat operations in WWI. I recall that Robert Moraht had something to say about the crews' living quarters at the Cattaro base in the Mediterranean. Read it for yourself, it's good fun and I don't want to spoil it for you.
