On closer examination, Esch may have indeed survived the war! Ubootwaffe lists
him as a crew member of U99 but the date of death is blank. This site does NOT
list him as lost at all. [www.denkmalprojekt.org] Perhaps Simon S. or some other
esteemed member of this forum can shed some light on this. A bit of a mystery.
