"At 10 a.m.,Oct.12th,(1918) the Deutschland (U155) attacked the American
steamship AMPHION, formerly the German KOLN. Here second shot carried away
the steamer's wireless. Then ensued a gunfire contest that lasted more than
an hour, the submarine firing some 200 shots and the AMPHION 72. The
AMPHION was hit time and again, her lifeboats were riddled and her super-
structure damaged, but she gradually drew off and the uboat abandoned the
chase."

The AMPHION bound from Bordeaux to New York in ballast was attacked at
36 06N; 62 59W. Some sources say 2 men killed and 6 wounded.
