USS Chattanooga vs u-boats?

Hi all,

I recently found that an ancestor of mine, Theodore James Hansen, was Coxswain on the USS Chattanooga, which was tasked with convoy duty in WWI. The CO was Arthur MacArthur, who was, "for distinguished work in protecting the troop transports from German U-Boats in 1918, he was awarded the Navy Cross, the Distinguished Service Medal and was promoted to Captain" per a few sites. I have found precious little about what she actually did while my relative was aboard, from 6/28/17 - 11/11/18. I would be most curious to know if she encountered any u-boats at all in her numerous transatlantic trips.

Any information or suggestions on where to get specifics and details on what this ship did during that period would be most welcome.

Thanks,

-Daniel
