Thanks forthe answer! I'm inclined to believe it was a mistake on Massie's part (I asked here precisely because it sounds like a mythuge and my own research can't confirm it), but in the spirit of accuracy, it is possible the destroyers were British. Massie (or maybe Sims?) was just a bit vague on that.
