Hi Bernie,

I agree with you that it could be in order to « increase the value » and I really don’t see, what one could do with a knife on board of a U-boot.
But it could also be a « family item / souvenir » used on board by one personal,(for cutting & eating his steak for instance), but not making part of the general U-boot supply or equipment.
I had a look on the following sites:
1. WW1 – German army knives

2. Seaman’s knives, as being use on board of open ships. Type of knives are different
