The situation with UC 19 and UB 29 has always been kind of a mess. They sailed on the same day (November 27, 1916) and both operated in the western English Channel, making it impossible to tell which U-boat was responsible for certain ship sinkings.

To further complicate matters, none of the available sinking claims is all that strong. The Goodwins attack mentioned refers to a depth charge attack by the destroyer HMS Landrail on December 13, 1916. As The Naval Staff Monograph notes of this action, “Where there is no wreckage, however, it is impossible to say with absolute certainty that a submarine was destroyed.” It does not come as a surprise that at least one of UC 19 and UB 29 was lost somewhere else than was generally thought.
