<HTML>Hi Fin

I think this cap comes from a crewmember of U124 or U524.

The emblem despicts the Edelweiss, a flower that grows at high level in mountains, and very popular symbol in Alps/alpine region. It was the emblem of the german mountain troops.

The Edelweiss was carried by these U-Boats and/or their crews:

U124:
CO KL Wilhelm Schulz. The crew came from U64, sunk at Narvik.
After the sinking, mountain riflemen rescued them and they take their emblem.
\"My people were then given the Edelweiss emblem, and wore it on their caps at first\"(an then also on U124 conning tower).

U515:
\"As a cap emblem we had the emblem of the 10th U-Fl., and on the tower a hammer was despicted. We were called the \"Hammer Boat\" in jest.\"
\"It is said that the Edelweiss was also (sometimes?) borne on the tower\".

U524
CO KL Baron von Steinäcker.
\"The Steinäcker family came from Styria in Austria. Thus I presume that an Edelweiss was chosen as the cap emblem for that reason\"

U597
Her Edelweiss emblem was in another design (Two Edelweiss)
