<HTML>The person that you are referencing from the book, 'Silent Hunters,' is Ralph Kapitsky, Kommandant of U 615. Kapitsky joined the Kriegsmarine in April 1935. He was transferred to the Luftwaffe to be trained as a navigator and observer, and later became a co-pilot of naval aircraft of Coastal Air Group 806. He participated in the invasion of Poland flying an He-111 and the invasion of Norway. He also was trained as a gunner and observer in a Stuka and then a Ju-88. He took part in the Battle of Britain, surviving 100 missions.

He was taken back into the Kriegsmarine in December 1940.</HTML>
