The Royal Navy still has commodore rank and it is one broad stripe - as in the admiral ranks the broad one at the bottom of the sleeve. It is a non-substantive rank and anyone retiring in that rank will either get promotion to Rear-Admiral or drop back to Captain.
Commodore Tim Lawrence is shortly to be promoted Rear-Admiral but I think that has a lot to do with who his mother-in-law is and not his own abilities - he is married to the Princess Royal.
Also in the modern German navy there is a Flottenadmiral which is, I believe just above or about the rank of Kommodore.
