Type VII torpedo loading

<HTML>Hi all

This morning I´ve been reviewing the book
"U-Boats under the swastika" by Jak P. Mallmann Showell

One of the photos caught my attention:

In the page 89 there is a picture (center one) showing what I think a rare sight:
A torpedo is being loaded into an U-boat while at port.

Until now nothing rare, but the shot was taken when the eel
is being loaded on board through the after torpedo-cargo-hatch,
showing also the complete after-torpedo-cargo-device(*).
A not so usual view.

Its caption reads:

"Training torpedoes are loaded aboard U-586 in Kiel. Note the man working
a hand-operated winch to raise the torpedo to the correct angle for lowering.
This view shows the stern where three torpedoes could be stored...."

Best regards

NOTE (*) I know another pic of this device, but without torpedo, in a shot of U-73.
