<HTML>The Sicilia was on its way from Lourenco Marques to Beira with a general cargo (wheat flour and fruit salts). On the morning of May 27, the Sicilia was stopped by a German submarine (U181). The ships Captain and one other crewmember were ordered to the sub with the ships papers. After having studied the papers for quite some time Lüth told the Captain that the Sicilia was to be sunk. The crew got 30 minutes to leave the vessel with their belongings, before it was sunk. The lifeboats set sail and landed North of Cape Corrientes in the afternoon. No casualties.
