<HTML>Hi all
On reviewing the book "U-Boat war" by Timothy J. Kutta, the photo included on
page 11 is puzzling me:
Two type IX U-boats can be seen while at port, docked side by side.
The shot has been taken from the quay, and shows the port-after part of their
conning towers.
It´s a pre-war pic as both U-boats carry their pennant numbers painted in white.
They are U-39 and U-41
What is puzzling me is that their conning towers has not the usual pre-war
smooth/clean shapes; they have not the mid-tower spray deflector, but do have
the circular pattern extended wintergarten flak platform (Turm 0).
Even the upper part of the towers have also been enlarged in a similar design to the "Kohlenkasten" armoured boxes used at the late stages of the war.

Have I missed something?
Any comments?
Best regards</HTML>
