u-805 and five other outward-bound boats joined to form Seewolf group from 14.4.45 N of the Azores. the boats were to sweep west-wards across the north atlantic convoy routes in an effort to draw some of the hunting groups from british coastal waters.
During the nights of 18/19th and 19/20th u-805 was sighted on the surface by USN Leigh light liberaters of VPB-14 from Teceira, at 420 miles N of Flores, Azores and 50 miles from the escort-carrier USS Mission Bay. Theboat submerged each time before an attack could be made. During the night of the 20/21st she was located and attacked with depth-charges for two hours by the destroyer-escort USS Mosely,again she escaped.
The Seewolf group plan failed and by the 24th only u-805 and u-858 had not been sunk. U-805 patroled in the Halifax area.
When the war ended she was still at sea. U-805s commander radioed his position in the morning of 9.5.45 and rendezvoused with the destroyer-escorts Uss Otter and Varian on the 13th,15 miles S of Cape Race. Thewarships had come out from Argentia.
the boat went into the Portsmouth navy yard at Kittery,Maine,where she surrendered on 14.5.45. The crew was interrogated there aboat missile-launching equipment being fitted to u-boats.
U-805 was used for victory visits to ports on the US east coast. she was later used experimentally by the US navy. the boat was scuttled on 4.2.1946 off the east coast.
