U-boat in the Sea of Cortez

Second request for any info possible info.Rumor growing stronger of U-boat dispatched in winter 1944 to carry gold for payoff to certain corrupt Mexican authorities for later settlement of Nazi refugees and transport of escapees from Papago POW camp in Phoenix, Arizona on that ocurred on December 24.

Could a U-boat have been capable of making the journey (if accompnaied by a refueling tanker disguised as a neutral freighter) to the Sea of Cortez between the Mexican mainland and the baja?
