Conflicting history about U68 & British tanker Darkdale

The Uboat.Net article about the British tanker Darkdale, sunk by U-68 on 22Oct41, says "the master and seven crewmen were rescued by harbour craft." But other sources say that all crewmen aboard the ship at the time of Merten's attack were killed, and that the skipper and five other crewmen were ashore at the time. See: [www.historicalrfa.org]

This seems to be a conflict in stories. Any opinions about which of these stories is the correct one? Thank you for any information.
