<HTML>Alfred,

It shouldn't be too hard to distinguish between a II and a XXIII. Several major differences:

1. The number of torpedo tubes. Type II boats have three, XXIIIs only two.

2. Shape of the bow. XXIIIs had rounded bows, Type IIs had a more traditional ship-type bow.

3. The number of propellers. Type IIs had two props, a Type XXIII only had one. The rudder arrange also were completely different between the two classes.

4. The shape of the conning tower of a XXIII is distintive.

5. You could walk on the deck of a Type II - the deck is flat. It's a bit more to walk on curved "deck" of a Type XXIII.

Try looking at the type information on this website - such as [www.uboat.net] and [www.uboat.net]

Best wishes,

Michael</HTML>
