<HTML>Hi, Paul!
Firstly, Merry Christmas! I had the privilege of serving on the old W Class destroyer SAS Simon van der Stel, which had originally been commissioned into the RN as HMS Whelp, and at one time Prince Philip, now the Duke of Edinborough, was her First Lieutenant. These vessels were capable of over forty knots, and I was on board in 1970 when we went to take an injured seaman off a ship about 1000 miles east of Durban. The experience of doing that kind of speed in a ship like that has to be one of the most impressive of my life, no wonder the U-boats had great respect for them!
Best regards
