<HTML>Bergen was in a way a "safe" city for a german sailor, same goes for the surrounding areas.
Compared to other occupied countrys(France/Russia) Norway was a very good country to be in for a german sailor. Very few serious incidents about german sailors/soldiers happend during the war years.
Incidents did happen, one of them was in Bergen. A german officer was caught, stripped of his uniform, and a cloth was put in his mouth. He was then nailed/crusified to the floor in a boathouse in the harbour. A later autopsy show that he was still alive when he was crusified.
When german sailors/soldiers were traveling around they were usually more than one person, i.e. usually in groups. As occupants the germans were aware of that they were not welcome in Norway.

Some questions for you. Have noticed your interest about Bergen, the church of cross (U-1053), christmas in Bergen, travelling Bergen-Oslo, why the interest ?</HTML>
