WO U-117 to 8/43.
acting commander U-66 6.8.43-1.9.43. U-66 was damaged by aircraft from the escort carrier uss card on 3.8.43 2WO Kurt Schutze was killed andMarkworth, 1WO Klaus Herbig and 7 crew were wounded. On6.8.43 U-117 arrived to assist, and naval asst. Surgeon Dr.schenk transferred to U-66 to attend to the wounded.
Freks,who was WO aboard U-117, transferred to U-66 as WO. during an attempt to refuel and re-provision U-66 the following day,Cards aircraft returned and U-117 was sunk. U-66 returned to Lorient with Frerks as acting commander.
Commander U-975 17.11.43-16.3.44 but relieved of command following disciplinary hearing.
